What will you create?

What's the Point?

October 24, 2019
Every other month, for the past 4 years, I have taught a young adult art class at our local library. We do lots of interesting projects and the kids are always enthusiastic and jump right into creating.  Today I'm going to do a lesson on Pointillism,a technique of neo-impressionist painting using tiny dots of various pure colors, which become blended in the viewer's eye. It was developed by Georges Seurat with the aim of producing a greater degree of luminosity and brilliance of color,

All these years I've never asked for any books that would give examples.  We only have an hour and the kids want to start creating right away, art is such a great relaxation tool for all ages. Well I few weeks ago, it dawned on me. I could almost hear my mother's voice internally saying - "ah, the light dawns on your marble head" - I realized I was teaching in a building full of books, why am I not using them?

My classes typically have more female students than male so I made a point and trying to find some female pointillism artists to share with the class.  Well, there are none from until we enter our modern day.  Enter Ana Enshina, a London based watercolor artist that creates multicolored dots in varying shapes and sizes to illustrate majestic animals and people. Her work made me feel instantly happy.

Check out her Instagram in the link, her work is gorgeous, light and fills you with good energy, I'm glad I did a bit of searching and discovered her this morning.  Her art takes pointillism and makes it hers, y'all know how I like that!

Hope you get to make some cool stuff today,

AnnMarie

So here I am, I'm just going to do it and see what comes of it. I'm in the midst of planning a bunch of different events while trying to get ready for the holidays.  I've taken on the role o...
